wings

Obviously, we did not keep our promise of posting a lot this semester. Too much to keep up with here in the real world...artwork, investing, meaning making processes, self-portraits, pig gut, woodblock, words, clay, and some apartment drama that turned into love...it's all good...and soon comes summer, another episode waiting to happen.

Anywho, diamond girls will soon fly away

from their beloved nest...

Diamond Girls, however, will always be.

To Sweet New Beginnings

"The road will be long. Our climb will be steep. We may not get there in one year or even one term, but America - I have never been more hopeful than I have been tonight that we will get there.  I promise you - we as a people will get there." - Barack Obama

This morning we went down to Independence Mall to watch OUR NEW PRESIDENT OBAMA's  inauguration. Among strangers and friends we watched with cold toes and warm hearts. The speech was beautiful with power and strong with will for our new era of HOPE, CHANGE and PEACE. It was great and we feel like we have finally begun our path towards a better future, as well as towards each other.
Afterwards, we returned to the NEW TYLER BUILDING (which will take some getting used to) and finished our classes for the day. BUT! in celebration, like traditional jewish welcoming of new beginnings with something sweet and in HONOR of grandma Shiraki's Hawaiian heritage in relation to Obama's youth in Hawaii we decided to cook up some sweet new beginnings. please enjoy the visuals of our energy bars that will charge us up for these first sure steps down our new path behind OUR president - President Barack Obama!

with much love,
xio and sa

p.s.
we promise to do more posting this semester. promises.

i wish i could have had a nyc adventure with you. i still want to get up to new york before school... but we will see.
I am glad you all liked the little gifts... i meant to say, tell your sister that that ring is a lockett... did she figure that out??
i know exactly what you mean about new beginnings and the "past"... i feel you on that.
everyone is headed back to school and i'm starting to realize my own new beginning is going to start soon. i am a little freaked out about this coming year, but i am also trying to stay strong.
no walking with self doubt remember?
:)

see you in a week or so.

Dear Sarita!

Happy New Year! Finally here...2009!!! It seems that the concept of "past" actually does become real when a new beginning to something arrives. Does this make sense?

Can you imagine that I finally read your post today? Well, it's true, already on a good start to the year. Being at home has been peaceful (and family crazy too), something I long for sometimes when I am in my crazy states. I also have no internet at home, which is kind of great. Having no internet means you get to focus on the present, a vacation away from the virtual world. I loved reading about your Kodish-Eskind family holiday story. Hilarious! Oh, and before I forget. THANK YOU for the package. We all say thank you...my sister absolutely loved the ring. Your packaging is always so much fun. It was crazy the first few days when I got home, because on the north side of the world everything was covered in complete snow, which then turned to ice! I have been driving my parents crazy with some cooking inventions that i've been stirring up, but they don't complain when it's time to eat. It's been so nice to visit family and to talk, can't tell you how much I missed that. What are you doing this Saturday? Come up to New York, a friend and I were planning to take a trip up there. Let's all get together and have an adventure!

I love you friend!

All the best to you this year and to all who read this!

Dear Xiomi,

I am sure you are happy to be home with you family. I know i have been enjoying my time with mine. It is my mom's birthday today (i told her you said happy birthday) and we had a pretty good time. We went out to eat Ethiopian food (sooo goood!) and then did presents and a movie. We watched this movie called Surfwise. It is about this family that took off across the country in a 24ft long trailer/car - 9 kids and just surfed. It was a crazy story, and they all seem a little too far from balance for me to want to live that way. But there was something really beautiful about the freedom and detachment from some of the stuff that holds people down, i think. It made me miss the ocean and also made me want to just go. You know? I just want to go and see and experience. I don't want to let go of those i love, or that which i feel responsible for... i don't know.
Anyway, i was just thinking about you. i hope all of your loved ones are doing well and staying warm. i am wanting to plan a trip to go to the MOMA so maybe i can meet you half way?
we will see.
let me know when you get the box i sent.

love

sarah

p.s.
your photos are beautiful.
and i hope you never got rid of those "demo" ones, because i'll take them!

Our Powers Combined

As most of ya'll peeps know, both of us (Sarah and Xiomara) are living on Diamond St., and yes I know that Diamond Girls is over the top and it does not truly describe us. Rest assured, we have never owned any diamonds (and probably never will: mostly out of choice). Anyhow, we wanted to represent our temporary nest, a home sweet home.
True business is a slang term that we are borrowing from our deaf brothers and sisters; it is the equivalent of "word" or a term of positive agreement. We both were feelin' the term and we promise to use it with respect for where it comes from.

We will be posting moments from our nest and from where our paths overlap, and some about where they don't.

I hope that you check in and see what we are up too. For those of you we know, this is our way of keeping you updated and spreading the love. For those of you we don't know, this is our way of saying hello. For starters, enjoy the image behind our blog title; it is the first of many more to come.

Love,
Sarah and Xiomara
